Teignmouth Swimming & Life Saving Society were re-established over 35 years ago to teach the children of the sea side town of Teignmouth the important lesson of personal water survival and high standards of swimming.
The club is run entirely by a team of volunteers. Our sessions are one day a week at Dawlish Leisure Centre during the winter and Teignmouth Lido during the summer - situated just a few metres from the sea front prom.
The club is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), our lessons are based on the ASA nation plan for teaching swimming which has recently been updated. The system incorporates the basic elements of swimming, water polo, diving, synchronised swimming and rookie lifeguard. This enables children to explore exciting opportunities outside of the general swimming lesson and find an area of interest for all children to develop.
Children can begin swimming lesson with us from the age of five (it is best to get their names on the waiting list at least a year prior to their fifth birthday as our waiting list is currently running at around 12 - 18 months long).
Our learn to swim groups are run ideally with a maximum of 4 children to 1 teacher. All the teachers are volunteers and are trained as either ASA Level 1 or Level 2 teachers. The club is also lucky enough to have a Level 4 Head Coach for the older swimmers and constant Teacher development. Our club aims to offer children a fun learn to swim experience in a relaxed atmosphere.
We are very aware that a child's first experience in a pool will shape there future fears and concerns about water. For this reason we always give the parents and children a two week trial to ensure you and your children enjoy our style of lesson and teaching. We completely understand that this is a very individual decision and we are first to admit that we will not suit every ones needs.
